The Doctor

Olivier Award winner Juliet Stevenson 'delivers one of the peak performances of the theatrical year' (The Guardian) in the West End transfer of Robert Icke's sold-out, five-star Almeida Theatre production.

★★★★★ 'The play of the decade' The Times

★★★★★ 'Juliet Stevenson is riveting' The Telegraph

★★★★★ 'A profound argument against absolutes' The Guardian

In a divisive time, in a divided nation, a society takes sides. The latest smash-hit by 'Britain's best director' (Telegraph) is a 'provocative, wonderfully upsetting' (Independent) whirlwind of gender, race and identity, a 'devastating play for today' (Financial Times).

Don't miss this ★★★★★ play in the West End until Sun 11 December only.

  • An inrense, enhralling evening.

    4 December 2022

A wonderful ensemble piece led by a fantastic performance from Juliet Stevenson. Starting with, but ranging far beyond the medical incident which kicks off the drama, examining trial by media (social and otherwise.) A wonderful and engaging piece which demands and keeps attention.

Traditional theatre lover. Confirmed ticket purchaser

  • Non of the star appeared in this performance

    1 December 2022

Very disappointed with seating only saw 3/4 of the stage and we had non of the original cast perform. The play was excellent but otherwise left very flat

A very absorbing play about the difficulties of adopting an identity in the minefield that is Identity Politics: one foot wrong and the bastards have got it in for you. A stupendous performance from Juliet Stevenson as a decent, liberal-minded, eminent Professor of Medicine who decides she is after all simply a doctor, having just been unfairly struck off.
